Phase 2 has been approved by the city council. This includes two major trunk routes between Mitchells Plain and Claremont (T12) and a portion of a route from Khayelitsha to the intersection of Strandfontein and New Ottery roads (T11).
Thirty communities are expected to benefit from the bus routes.
The T11 route will exclude an extension to Wynberg, which formed part of an original route design that was rejected by the Western Cape High Court last year, until a more “meaningful” public participation process had been carried out.
The extension would involve 26 families having to vacate council homes to make way for bus lanes.
